Mental Health Awareness

In presence of year 2023, we as a population have been subjected to so many things that we could have never imagined. Over the past years Mental Health has been more prevalent than ever. Not to relive politics and mass illness but we have been put through the wringer. With that comes things that are good and some that are bad, I think that Mental Illness is now a top priority. As anything mental health related was never really discussed in the minority community amongst families.

As a member of the minority community, I grew up knowing that there was a difference between me and others. Not only because of the color of my skin, but because I felt different as a person. Having a different upbringing and family trauma unlike others, I knew I suffered but wouldn’t know the extent until my adult years. Becoming a member of this community has been rough, you can have very high highs and very low and even lower lows. Speaking on, acknowledging and supporting mental health has become apart of my journey in life. I would like to advocate for those like me by letting them know they don’t have to suffer in silence. I want those who suffer and those that are just genuine in supporting the cause to let their voice sparkle.

I have designed some tees with them in mind! Let’s address the elephant in the world, and make them feel a little better than they did when they woke up. The mental health collection, has a strong message. I am so inspired by the collection, I want to donate 10% of each sale to a minority mental health organization. The organization is called The Steve Fund (https://stevefund.org), it will be the recipient of this monthly donation.

“The Steve Fund is dedicated to supporting the mental health and emotional well-being of young people of color.

Right at this moment, there are young people of color who are failing academically, suffering emotionally, and/or in some cases are facing serious risk, because population-specific factors influencing mental health are too poorly understood and not acted upon. We are taking action.”

I hope that this collection reaches the masses, reaches a young African American girl like myself, reaches the families of those suffering or just reaches someone with an open heart and mind. I hope everyone enjoys this collection as much as I did curating it.
